Had a dream that I was in a cave with a tunnel leading deeper into the earth. Cave was very well illuminated, and I was with my roommate, Noa. We found fragments of a book, or set of papers describing a race of evil/malicious beings - gnomes, faeries, or the like - that lived in a tunnel that was coming off of the main cave.

A family of Mexicans came walking by - around 6-7 people, mostly adults. They were having a grand old time and waltzed straight into the tunnel without any care in the world. We were worried, but wondered if we could follow them into the hole and be somehow become protected. End up deciding against that idea.

Soon we hear rustling and screaming coming from the cave. The Mexicans come running out, two of them carrying one of the women who has had her ankle severed or broken. She is terribly injured and they are all very frightened. We try and communicate with them about what happened, but they don't speak any English. They run away leaving us by the tunnel.

For some reason, we decide to go into the cave anyways. So we enter and go pretty deep into it, when our consciousnesses begin to drift from our bodies. For some reason, I understand that this is how the aliens (that's what these beings are...typical "greys") are able to kidnap people and communicate with them.
They sever the consciousness from the body so that they can have unadulterated access to our bodies and still communicate with our subconscious minds. An added bonus for them is the fact that we won't remember a thing.

The small beings come out of the walls of the tunnel and start surrounding Noa and myself before our consciousness completely drifts away and all is blackness.

My eyes open as I awake, nestled in my bed beneath my covers.
But I cannot move. I am paralyzed. I've experienced sleep paralysis before so I don't panic as much as I did the first time.

Remembering the other experience, a process begins of flexing my fingers...trying to get to the point where I can flex my forearm to pump my fist. Soon it is clear that control is being regained over my body, but for some strange reason my vision is not changing - I see not movement in the bed. Even though I can feel my head moving, my vision is static on my room with trees moving outside my window.

It is almost as if I am controlling another body with the mind that is in my sleeping form. But I am awake...or at least, my eyes are open. I rotate my body around andput my feet on the carpeted floor without my "real" body moving at all. I can hear my roommates (all 4) joking around and talking loudly in the hallway outside of my door. I'm calling to them for help, pleading for them to come into the room.

But their conversation and humorous antics are overpowering my voice, which feels feeble and empty spilling from my lips. I keep calling, and during a pause in their jovial discussion they hear me. They knock, ask if all is well and enter the room. As soon as I hear the door opening, my conscious mind snaps into the body that had moved and called out. I describe the experience to them and we all remark on the oddity of the situation.

    And then I woke up.

    ...and then I woke up.

I am back in my bed, beneath the covers, and light is filtering through the window. It was all a dream.

The conclusion I have drawn is that I was dreaming and "awoke" while my mind was still in REM. So I was experiencing the room, but still controlling my dream body. Then, when the dream got more concrete, with their characters entering my personal space, I snapped back into the dream body until the dream resolved and I awoke as natural.

    ...and then I woke up.
